What are Psychological Tests?

Various psychological tests are used by psychiatrists and specialized psychologists to make the correct diagnosis and create an effective treatment plan. Psychological tests are scientifically based measurement and evaluation tools. No psychological test provides information on its own. Therefore, it is important that the person administering and reporting the test has expertise in this field and clinical observation.

The results of the test are prepared for the referring specialist. The person administering the test transmits the results of the psychological test to the referring specialist. You should therefore be in contact with your psychologist or physician.

There are some points to consider before taking psychological tests. Listed below are some points to be considered before psychological tests are administered:

  • Test administration time
  • Where the test will be administered

It is important that you are rested, sleepy and full when you come for the test. If you wear glasses or hearing aids, please bring them with you.

The Importance of Psychology Tests

Psychological tests have an important place in the clinical field in order to make the correct diagnosis and determine the effective treatment for individuals. Psychological tests provide objective, valid and reliable assessment of symptoms and complaints during the assessment and treatment process. At the same time; it contributes to the monitoring of the symptoms of the person during the treatment process and provides information to the client and the treatment team to monitor the change.

For individuals, psychological tests and feedback from the treatment team support self-awareness and self-recognition. At the same time, it makes it easier for the person to recognize their symptoms and make sense of the causes and consequences of the symptoms.

What are Psychological Tests for Adults?

MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), Rorschach (Inkblot Test), Neuropsychological Tests, MOXO (Continuous Attention Test) are the most frequently used psychological tests for adults. In addition, psychological tests called Moodsoft and MoodCog, which are used to evaluate cognitive functions and general mental problems, are frequently applied in our hospital. The content of each psychological test is listed below:

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)

MMPI is one of the most frequently used objective measurement tools in the field of personality assessment. In addition to personality traits, it is used in the clinical field as a test that determines the diagnosis, severity and course of treatment of psychiatric disorders based on the individual. The MMPI can also be used in recruitment processes or in criminal courts. This psychological test is administered to people over the age of 16 and who have completed at least primary school.

After the test is administered, the results of the test are shared with the attending psychiatrist and psychologist. The treatment team shares the results with the person and the treatment process is determined.

Rorschach (Inkblot Test)

The Rorschach Test is a frequently used projective test that provides information about an individual's personality structure. In order for this psychological test to be administered, it is necessary to have been referred to the test by an expert. The test should be performed by an expert in the field. Although the Rorschach can be administered to anyone who has the ability to speak, its evaluation varies according to the age range.

It can generally be applied to examine personality traits, emotional functioning, thought processes and relational investments. The most important feature of the test is that it transforms inkblots from an imagination test into a personality test and makes them open to interpretation.

After the test is administered, the results of the test are shared with the psychiatrist and psychologist following the test. The treatment team shares the results with the person and gives feedback.

Implementation

The test consists of ten cards with ten patterns. The administration of the test does not change, the same instructions and cards are shown to everyone and all ages. It can be applied to all individuals with speaking and thinking skills and without mental disabilities. It is possible to apply the test to individuals of all ages who can speak. A distinguishing factor is that the comments made to children and adolescents should differ from the comments made to adults. For this reason, evaluations should be divided according to age groups. The test takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to administer. Some patients tend to finish the test more quickly. In some cases, this may take a little longer.

TAT (Thematic Perception Test)

Applied for children over 10 years of age and adults, the TAT (Thematic Perception Test) analyzes the story that the person creates using imagination with cards depicting various human behaviors. The Thematic Perception Test, which is aimed at understanding the person's situation before psychotherapy, helps to address the individual holistically and analyze the emotional state.

MOXO Test - for Adults

Psychological tests are important in determining the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and planning effective treatment. At this point, the MOXO Test is one of the measurement tools with high reliability to help diagnose ADHD and plan effective treatment. It consists of two separate forms for both children (7-12 years) and adults (13 years and older). This test is performed on a computer screen. The MOXO Test assesses attention, impulsivity and hyperactivity in a holistic manner.

Moodist Test Program (MoodSoft)

The Moodist Test Program (MOODSOFT) is a web-based psychological test battery used to assess general mental state. There are 9 different psychological tests including SCL-90, Five Factor Personality Inventory, Kocaeli Psychological Trauma Scale, Bapirt Alcohol, Bapirt Drug, Bapint, Gambling Screening Test (KURT), Mini Mental Test and Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS). All tests except the Mini Mental Test are self-report scales.

Moodist Cognitive Test (MoodCog)

MoodCog is a computarized psychological test battery for the assessment of cognitive functions. MoodCog mainly measures four cognitive functions: attention, impulsivity, risk taking and memory. Each test is administered by a clinician, which includes clinical observation of the cognitive functions of the individual. In this way, clinicians can evaluate the impairments in cognitive functions together with the test data and provide guidance. At the same time, determining the impaired cognitive functions of the person is important in terms of determining appropriate treatment methods specific to the person and preparing training programs.

BapiSoft

In order to develop a personalized program; it is very important to make a good assessment. This is why we attach importance to the evaluation process.

We conduct the evaluation using scientific methods, using a program called BapiSoft, prepared by our director Prof. Dr. Kültegin Ögel with the support of TÜBİTAK.

Which areas are we exploring in the evaluation?

- Addiction severity
- Physical, medical problems
- Concomitant mental problems
- Family characteristics
- Factors that lead to addiction
- Individual risks

We share the outcome of the assessment with the individual and, where appropriate, with the family.
Based on the data we obtain as a result of the evaluation, we create a personalized recovery program.

Moodist Relapse Index (MORI)

Addiction is a relapsing disease. It is as important not to relapse as it is to quit. That is why we try to prevent relapse.

For this purpose, we developed a scale called the Moodist Relapse Index (MORI).

When a person fills out this scale, he or she identifies what will lead to relapse (starting to use again) in the future.

In this way, they can gain information about what they can do to prevent relapse and change their behavior accordingly. Our experts also inform the person about what these changes can be and how they can be made.

What are Psychological Tests for Children and Adolescents?

WISC-IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children IV), CAT (Thematic Perception Test for Children), AGTE (Ankara Developmental Screening Inventory) and DENVER are the most commonly used psychological tests for children.

WISC-IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children IV)

It is a clinical measurement tool that aims to assess the cognitive skills of children between the ages of 6 and 16 and is administered individually by competent persons. This measurement tool is used to assess the cognitive skills of children or adolescents both within themselves and in comparison to their peers. At the same time, it is used to see the strengths and weaknesses of children or adolescents and the skills that need to be supported and to work with them.

The WISC-IV is an updated version of the WISC-R, which is widely used for children in the clinical field. Since the WISC-R was limited to the conditions in the years when it was adapted, it was thought that it did not fully reflect the cognitive development, strengths and weaknesses of today's children and that the results obtained were not reliable.

The WISC-IV, which is based on scientific and up-to-date data for the assessment of children in the age range it aims to measure, is recognized as the most reliable psychological test and measurement tool used in the field for planning, study and counseling in clinical and educational fields.
